GOP Health Care Failure

Senator Al Franken really knows healthcare. He is one of the best educated US Senators on the subject. I agree completely with what he says about the GOP and health care in his new book (shown below).

My Opinion: I have a number of Republican friends who will cringe at these words. But they are true nonetheless. Someday they will have to face up to what the GOP has been trying to do to the American Health Care System… and I think be ashamed.

From Al Franken’s book, “Al Franken, Giant of the Senate”  --  and yes the title is a joke.

The truth is, I don’t really believe that Republicans are ever going to come up with a real replacement for the Affordable Care Act. Because it seems to me that they don't actually care about making sure that every American has access to quality, affordable health care.

What do they care about?
  • They want insurance companies to be able to sell you junk policies.
  • They want drug manufacturers to be able to gouge people who rely on medications to stay healthy.
  • They want to make it harder for people who’ve suffered from medical malpractice to get their day in court.
  • They want rich people to not have to pay for health care for poor people.
And, most of all, they want to keep using this issue to rally their base, reward their donors, and punish Democrats.

I don’t know what’s going to happen going forward. But what I do know is this: Anyone who trusts this Republican Party with the future of our nation’s health care system simply hasn’t been paying attention.

My Opinion: One of the lessons of the recent GOP health care efforts (or lack thereof) is that the GOP surely now do not want women Republican Senators. GOP women Senators actually are concerned about the health care of Americans, and they will not vote for bills that hurt us. GOP male Senators are secure with their own great government health care, and they hate the idea of helping create good health care for the rest of us, especially if we are poor. I predict the Republican National Committee will stop supporting any women running for the US Senate as a Republican.
