The Green Movement

In a great book "Getting to Green, Saving Nature: A Bipartisan Solution" by Frederic C. Rich (2016), he asks a good question using flag burning as the backdrop:

"Flag burning, for example, is largely tolerated by the left as an act of free speech, but generates considerable ire on the right, which sees it as an open and notorious act of disrespect to the nation...

Why, I wonder, do these same conservatives who abhor flag burning not take equal offense at open and notorious acts of desecration to the physical fabric of the nation itself?...

I have found it deeply ironic, and occasionally offensive, that in recent years right-wing groups like the Tea Party have used images of amber waves of grain and majestic purple mountains as patriotic symbols, yet they oppose most attempts to protect and preserve these symbols in the real world."

I encourage everyone to read this book. It tries hard to reconnect the Conservative Movement back to its roots of protecting the land for future generations.
